Accounting for Uncertain Tax Positions

This course covers the rules for uncertain tax positions (UTPs) in FASB Codification Topic 740, Income Taxes. It details the requirements of the UTP rules and provides several examples of their application.

Topic 740 replaces prior guidance on reporting uncertain tax positions, specifically, FASB Interpretation No. 48, Accounting for Uncertainty in Income Taxes (FIN 48), as part of the FASB Accounting Standards Codification. As of July 1, 2009, the codification became the single source of authoritative nongovernmental U.S. GAAP, effective for interim and annual periods ending after September 15, 2009.
