Retirement Planning: Maximizing After-Tax Income explores prevalent tax-planning opportunities for retirement savings. The emphasis is on how to maximize after-tax income, with special focus on minimizing the taxation applied to social security benefits.

The course examines the taxation of social security benefits as well as the taxation of savings vehicles.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Distinguish how the two rules for inclusion of social security benefits in gross income typically apply to most taxpayers and high-income taxpayers;

  • Analyze how the domino effect can apply to clients who have increases in their modified adjusted gross income;

  • Describe how retirement savings vehicles are taxed and the circumstances in which traditional versus Roth IRAs are preferable; and

  • Describe how clients' deductions tied into AGI affect retirement investment choices.
