Governmental GAAP for State and Local Governments: Accounting and Financial Reporting for Investments (Second Edition)

Larry P. Bailey, D. Scot Loyd, Michael A. Crawford

GASB 31 establishes standards regarding certain investments held by governmental entities. These guidelines concern: securities or other assets acquired primarily for the purpose of obtaining income or profit; all investments held by governmental external investment pools; and other specified investments held by all other governmental entities (with some exceptions). This course reviews the guidance provided in GASB 31 and the types of investments to which that guidance applies.
