Manufacturing Deduction

CCH Editorial Staff

The 2004 Jobs Act adds 34 new sections to the Tax Code. One of the most important is Code Sec. 199.

This new section provides a deduction for U.S corporations engaging in "manufacturing" activities. Understanding the mechanics of the manufacturing deduction is crucial because it is arguably on the most beneficial code sections created in the past few years.

However, an enormous amount of complexity has been written into Code Sec. 199. It contains a number of new terms that are considered by many to be quite vague, yet critical in determining those businesses entitled to this important deduction.

This course explains the important new Code Sec. 199 manufacturing deduction. It explains domestic production gross receipts and the methods for determining them.
