Description: In recent years, tax preparers have been the subject of legislation regarding ways in which they must file returns. Additionally, the issue of tax preparer/client confidentiality has been "hot." In some ways, the California provisions have strengthened confidentiality, while in others, confidentiality has been eliminated.
Tax preparers are also being held to a higher standard and penalties are imposed for violations of various statutory responsibilities. In today’s climate, a tax preparer who is not aware of his or her responsibilities and potential liabilities may be skating on very thin ice.
California Tax: New Rules for Tax Preparers (Second Edition) provides an explanation of tax preparer requirements and specifically addresses new or amended provisions that directly concern tax preparers, including preparer confidentiality issues, electronic filing requirements, and penalties.
