State statutes confer broad authority on the state to audit a taxpayer's records. The challenge in the early stages of an audit is to take steps that will help a taxpayer gain a measure of control over the audit process. Practical steps for preperation for audits. Also, reminders that the audit is not just of the tax department but of the entire company and the entire company procedures should be reviews for compliance.
